Let’s Bring Goodness Home, Together

At Basil & Tate, we believe the people behind our work matter just as much as the spaces we create. We’re building a studio where creativity and collaboration are grounded in care—for our clients, our partners, our work, and one another.

Our Goodness Ethos is at the heart of how we show up each day. It means doing exceptional work while leading with kindness, communicating openly, approaching challenges with integrity, and making space for genuine connection along the way.

As our studio grows, we’re excited to welcome talented people who share those values and want to contribute their creativity, perspective, and expertise to the work we do together.

LEAD DESIGNER

Basil & Tate | Denver, Colorado
Part-Time | Approximately 20–25 hours/week | $38–$45/hour DOE

Basil & Tate is a residential interior design studio creating thoughtful, elevated homes that feel deeply personal to the people who live in them. We believe beautiful design is about more than how a space looks—it’s about creating a home that feels good to live in, and making the experience of getting there feel good, too.

Our Goodness Ethos shapes how we work—with our clients, our partners, and one another. We value attentive care, joyful presence, human kindness, radical communication, solution-oriented integrity, trust, gratitude, and genuine connection. We care deeply about the quality of our work and equally about how people feel while working with us.

We’re looking for an experienced Lead Designer to join our Denver-based team in a part-time role of approximately 20–25 hours per week, with the potential to grow as our studio and project needs evolve.

This is a highly creative, collaborative, and client-facing position. The right person combines a strong design eye and technical proficiency with warmth, confidence, sound judgment, and the ability to anticipate what a project needs next.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and support residential projects from initial concept through installation and final styling

  • Develop design concepts, space plans, furniture layouts, material palettes, and furnishing selections

  • Create technical drawings in CAD and 3D models and visualizations in SketchUp

  • Prepare polished client presentations and confidently lead client meetings and project conversations

  • Build genuine client relationships through warmth, attentiveness, responsiveness, and thoughtful communication

  • Source and specify furniture, lighting, textiles, artwork, accessories, and other design elements

  • Collaborate closely with the Principal Designer, studio team, architects, builders, vendors, trades, and other project partners

  • Anticipate project needs, questions, and potential challenges; identify issues early and proactively work toward solutions

  • Maintain design intent and an exceptional level of detail throughout project execution

  • Participate in site visits, installations, styling, and project-related travel as needed

What We’re Looking For

Our ideal candidate is equally comfortable developing a beautiful design, working through the technical details required to execute it, and sitting across the table from a client to confidently guide them through the process.

You bring enough project experience to have developed strong instincts. You think several steps ahead, notice what’s missing, anticipate where something could go wrong, and take action rather than waiting to be told what comes next.

Just as importantly, you genuinely enjoy people. You are naturally warm, friendly, engaging, and comfortable building relationships. Our clients are trusting us with something deeply personal—their homes—and creating an exceptional experience is every bit as important as creating an exceptional room.

Required:

  • 2+ years of professional interior design experience, with meaningful involvement in both creative design and technical execution

  • Experience carrying significant responsibility on residential projects from concept through completion

  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD/CAD and SketchUp

  • Strong design sensibility with an eye for scale, proportion, color, materials, furnishings, and styling

  • Experience developing and presenting design concepts directly to clients

  • A warm, outgoing, polished communication style and genuine enthusiasm for client interaction

  • Strong judgment and the ability to anticipate needs, identify potential issues, and determine next steps without constant direction

  • A proactive, ownership-oriented working style with excellent organization, communication, follow-through, and attention to detail

  • Based in the Denver area with willingness to travel as projects require

A Plus:

  • Experience with Enscape or another rendering program

  • Experience with high-end residential interiors

  • Experience coordinating with architects, builders, contractors, vendors, and trades

  • Experience leading installations and styling

The Person We Think Will Thrive Here

You love design, but you also love people.

You walk into a client meeting with warmth and confidence. You enjoy putting people at ease, listening carefully, and helping them feel excited and cared for throughout the process.

You notice the small details without losing sight of the bigger picture. Your experience has taught you to think ahead: you ask good questions, anticipate needs, notice when something doesn’t add up, flag concerns early, and come prepared with possible solutions.

You communicate proactively. You follow through. You know when to make a decision, when to ask a question, and when something needs attention.

Most importantly, you believe, as we do, that how we work matters just as much as the work itself.

How to Apply

Please send your resume and portfolio to hello@basilandtate.com with “Lead Designer Application” in the subject line.

We’d love to see work demonstrating both your design perspective and technical capabilities. For collaborative projects, please tell us about your individual role and contributions.

We’d also love to hear a little about how you work—particularly how you approach client relationships, project ownership, collaboration, and the inevitable challenges that arise while bringing a beautiful home to life.
